Unknown woman no more
SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain - Chinese director Xu Jinglei on Saturday
took the Best Director prize at the 52nd San Sebastian Film
Festival for her touching movie, Letters From An Unknown Woman.
RED LETTER DAY: Chinese director-actress Xu Jinglei took home
the Best Director prize at the 52nd San Sebastian Film Festival.
The movie, based on a novel by Austrian author Stefan Zweig, was
among three entries that were made by female directors.
Xu also stars in the movie opposite veteran actor Jiang Wen.
Letter is her second film as director after the acclaimed My
Father And I.
Iran's Bahman Ghobadi won the Concha de Oro (Golden Shell) award
for Turtles Can fly, about Iraqi children struggling to survive
in a refugee camp. It is the first-ever film made about Iraqi
Kurdish children.
Danish beauty Connie Nielsen was crowned Best Actress for her
role in Brothers, about the effects of war on a family whose
father is sent to Afghanistan. Her co-star Ulrich Thomsen was
named Best Actor.
The Best Screenplay accolade was for Omagh, Irishman Pete
Travis' film about an attack carried out in Northern Ireland in
